In the heart of Williamsburg County, the town of Kingstree is on the rise.

The South Carolina Department of Commerce has launched its Rural Development Strategic part of its broader Development Program. This Initiative recently partnered with economic planning experts to develop a multi-year roadmap aimed at reversing population decline and attracting new investment. In June, Live 5 News shared the city’s plan to strengthen Kingstree’s economic viability and help stop the growing trend of young residents moving away. Recent data shows a 10% population decline over the past decade. Now, businesses are targeting the downtown area as a promising base for revitalization and long-term growth.

The Murdagh Vital Aging Clinic

Vital Aging of Williamsburg County Murdagh Center is a nonprofit organization with decades of experience, dedicated to a broader mission of promoting nutritional, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual care for senior citizens in Williamsburg County.

Vital Aging’s roots extend back to providing in-home care for those who need it most—especially in rural communities where access to healthcare and social support can be limited.

In 2025, Williamsburg County will bring a new facility to the community.

Located at 501 N Longstreet Street on the former Kelly Hospital site, Vital Aging’s new home unites all essential services under one roof. This facility is designed to encourage independence, social connection, dignity, and overall well-being for seniors throughout the Williamsburg community.

Once complete, the clinic will serve as a comprehensive hub, including:

  • Large multi-purpose room for events and gatherings
  • Commercial-grade kitchen to support daily in-house meal service, homebound seniors, and community meal programs
  • Physical fitness and exercise room
  • Dedicated craft and game room
  • Technology center
  • Library and reading area
  • Administrative wing for staff and service coordination

Raising Walls, Raising Hope, Building the Economy

Construction is officially underway on what will soon be a new 15,646 gross square-foot, single-story building for the clinic. The project is being delivered by IP Builders and designed by Beaufort Design Build. We’re proud to be part of the team bringing this cornerstone development to life, providing exterior and interior metal framing, drywall, acoustical systems, ceilings, and more!

As walls rise and plans take shape, the Vital Aging of Williamsburg County in Kingstree stands as a powerful symbol of progress, hope, for the entire county. With completion anticipated in the coming year, this vital space will soon open its doors to connection and care, serving as a launchpad for Williamsburg County’s growing economy and the well-being of its residents.
