The Clubhouse and Internal Facilities for Charleston’s own Riley Park — affectionately known as “The Joe” — just got a major upgrade.
More than a minor league baseball stadium, nestled in the heart of Downtown Charleston, The Joe has become a cornerstone of community, culture, and connection.
This project involved a complete renovation and reconfiguration of the RiverDogs’ and The Citadel’s clubhouses on the concourse level to meet the RiverDogs’ new facility requirements. In addition, a brand-new clubhouse for The Citadel was constructed beneath the concourse, creating modern spaces designed to better support their teams, events, and guests.
The newly completed interior renovations enhance the spaces where players, performers, mascots, and staff prepare to bring good energy and passion to the field — reinforcing Charleston’s position as a city where sport, family, and faith intersect.
STADIUM HISTORY
Opened in 1997 and named after longtime Charleston mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., the stadium has been home to both the Charleston RiverDogs (Low-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) and The Citadel Bulldogs baseball teams.
The ballpark sits along the Ashley River and has become a staple of the city’s sports and community life.
Known for its lively atmosphere and unique Lowcountry family vibes—many inspired by part-owner Bill Murray—the stadium has cemented itself as a hub of local culture and community, hosting not only baseball games but also concerts, civic events, and gatherings that bring Charlestonians together.
PROJECT core
Designed by LS3P Architecture Interiors Planning and delivered under the general contracting of Mashburn Construction, our team at Commercial Interiors was entrusted with the spaces where game day truly begins.
From locker rooms used by players, performers, coaches, and mascots to support areas for staff who bring the RiverDogs experience to life, our work focused on the places where preparation meets performance.
With leadership from Rory Mains (Preconstruction), Julio Estrada (Crew Coordination), and Brian Eouzan (On-Site Management), our team partnered closely with Mashburn Construction to deliver every detail with our reputable care and craftsmanship.
Every project decision and on-site coordination were carefully rolled out to guarantee the utmost comfort, durability, and seamless performance for the players, staff, and everyone who makes both game and show days possible.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE CITY
This project represents more than interior upgrades — it’s an investment in Charleston’s community and its future.
The RiverDogs have always carried a mission of ‘Fun is Good’ — celebrating baseball not just as a sport, but as a gathering point for families, friends, and visitors across the Lowcountry.
By upgrading the essential back-of-house spaces — locker rooms, performer prep areas, and support facilities — we’ve strengthened that mission. These improvements ensure smoother events, stronger performances, and memorable experiences for everyone who steps into The Joe.
Projects like these reflect our shared belief: when Charleston grows stronger, we all grow together.
