Charleston has officially welcomed a bold new addition to its fitness community — Barry’s Bootcamp on 838 Morrison Drive.
For nearly 30 years, Barry’s has been known worldwide as the “Best Workout in the World” for its high-energy classes, immersive Red Room, and holistic approach to wellness.
Now, this global fitness phenomenon has found a new home right here in Downtown Charleston.
Bringing Barry’s Signature Experience to Life in downtown, charleston
Under the expert leadership of Trident Construction, and design of DXU Architects our team at Commercial Interiors transformed Barry’s iconic concept into a local landmark on Morrison Drive — just steps from local favorites like Home Team BBQ, Lewis Barbecue, Royal American, Revelry Brewing, and the vibrant Morrison Yard district.
With materials supplied by Capitol Materials Coastal, Inc., we delivered an ultramodern front desk, luxury locker rooms, and the iconic, soundproof Red Room — where their signature high-intensity interval training (HIIT) happens.
Because the studio is located beneath a residential building, the project required a careful balance of design requirements and acoustic performance to create an environment that reflects the studio’s mission, immerses athletes in the experience, and minimizes disruption to those living and working above and around the space.
To meet those demands, we selected high-performance materials known for their exceptional durability, superior wall hygiene, and lasting resistance to wear and tear — all essential for high-impact, high-energy spaces like Barry’s.
Soundproof Strenght: the red room
Through interior metal stud framing, drywall, and FRP (fiberglass-reinforced plastic) finishes, we followed Barry’s global design specifications to ensure the studio delivered on both functionality and atmosphere.
Soundproofing the space was a top priority from day one — not only to minimize disruption to residents all around but also to create an immersive environment that inspires movement, energy, and focus for every athlete who walks through the doors.
To achieve this, we:
🔴 Installed multiple layers of drywall across walls and ceilings for maximum sound isolation.
🔴 Integrated special-order soundproof doorframes from QuietStar Industries, manufactured by IAC Acoustics, delivering STC (Sound Transmission Class) ratings ranging from STC 43 to STC 64.
🔴 Engineered the Red Room so that loud music, voices, and equipment impacts are barely audible outside the space, allowing allowing the athletes the step into the studio to work with intensity without compromise.
